you go Franisco! Fun is above 200, certainly if they are putting a direct injection turbo boxer engine in a hybrid minivan thing, they will put one in this gorgeous car.

Haha, yea. Furthermore, the EJ20 they are talking about isn't legal in the states as of now. So it would be cheaper for them to put one of the 2.5L powerplants in the US models.

I believe it's a NA version of the 2.0 used in the Impreza, which has never be legal. Plus, one of the reasons they didn't try to get the 2.0L legal for our Impreza WRX STI models is because most Americans would like more torque and not have to rev the guts out of the engine for power. Or at least that's what they believe.

Report: Subaru’s FT-86 Sports Car to Be Bigger, Heavier and More Powerful
And don't forget more expensive
Be the First to Comment!By Colum Wood, Monday November 16 2009 , As: 216a, ft-86, japanese cars, SPORTS CARS, Subaru, subaru 216a, toyobaru

The Subaru version of the FT-86 will be larger, heavier and more powerful than its Toyota cousin. According to a recent report in Japan’s Best Car magazine (and brought to us by the team at 7Tune), the Subaru-branded Toyobaru will receive the 216A chassis code, rather than the 086A badge that the Toyota will get. (In North America, the FT-86 will go by the 087A chassis code, while European models will get the 088A code).

Being a Subaru, the 216A will get symmetrical all-wheel drive, which will add roughly 220-lbs. The car will also be slightly larger with a 20mm increase in both height and width, while the wheelbase will gain anywhere from 30m to 50mm.

The best part, however, is confirmation that the car will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged motor. Most likely this means the 250ps (247-hp) version found in the Impreza, with the 308-ps (303-hp) WRX STI motor left for a high-performance version in the future.

Neither of those powerplants are, however, offered in North America. This could mean that, much like the WRX, the 216A will get the 2.5-liter turbo motor, with either 224-hp or 265-hp.

As expected, all these additions will also come with a price hike over the standard model.

My prediction: There will be a base version that is naturally aspirated with around 200hp and a high perf version with around 250hp. The High perf. version will come out just after the base version goes to dealerships. This is exactly what they did with the Saturn Sky. The base version was initially sold for looks and to get the car out in the public quick, then the perf. version was reveiled about the same week you could put in the first orders for the base version.

Honestly, I think there SHOULD be over 200hp for sure for an NA motor. Toyota had the technology to make a high revving 200PS car in 1997 to 210PS in 1998 out of a 2.0 displacement(3SGE Redtop/Blacktop). When this car will come out in the market, it will be 15 years since the Redtop/Blacktop were produced, surely they have the technology to tune up a new engine to these standards, keep reliability, and keep emissions low.

Sure they can. It's a boxer after all. If they use Boxer and DI combination, this car will be fuel efficient, low emission, and powerful.

but they have to raise bonnet up by a few inches to meet European pedestrian regulation. However, Mr, Toyoda want to push the production car close to the concept.
